What is “Super Shit-arein”?
Why such a “dirty” word to describe this delicious spice? Well, it isn’t actually a dirty word in Yiddish. Chef Marla’s great grandmother cooked solely by the Yiddish “Shit-arein” method, which translated means, “to throw a little of this and a little of that” …. and it’s a method of cooking that she continues to use to this day.
“Creative, whimsical, knowledgeable, a passion for perfection” are all phrases that have been used to describe Chef Marla Cohen. A graduate of the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, Marla has 30+ years experience in the food industry. Her culinary experiences range from owner of an artisan bakery and catering business, vocational college culinary instructor to a corporate Executive Pastry Chef and also an Executive Chef in the private club industry.
Her knack for public speaking, zany sense of humor, vast culinary knowledge and well developed palette have made Marla a “must” at many culinary venues. Now, with the collaboration of Lyn Cloninger, she has co-created “PHOOD for Thought” an upscale, fine dining catering group. Lyn has 18+ years in the business including 8 years as the General Manager for a fine dining city club. Their “eye” for plate presentation, creating unique menus, and capturing the essence of an event has stirred excitement and garnered much interest in the LA area.
